WHAT WILL YOU REMEMBER THE 41st PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR?
George H. W Bush (Born June 12, 1924 -Died November 30, 2019)
WHAT WILL YOU REMEMBER THE 41st PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR?
I was just a little boy in 1990. I faintly remember visiting my 'Aje butter' cousins on a very beautiful morning hoping to play some game with them.
I got into their living room and saw their Dad watching TV and asked if what he was watching was a war film. The man said "This is not a movie son. This is a footage of a real war going on in IRAQ. This is what real war looks like. " I will never forget the images.
There was no Google then, I would have searched immediately to know about the war.
I will remember George Bush for The Gulf war waged by the United States against Iraq in response to Saddam Hussein 's invasion to annex Kuwait.
I later learned from reliable books on the OIL WARS and "The Secret of the 7 Sisters" documentaries by Al Jazeera that the Bush Family practically own the majority of the oil reserves in Kuwait at the time, through their family oil company and their associates.
In reading about oil and it's many crisis in the world, I also later found out that Saddam Hussein was badly set up to fall for the war.
A few weeks to the war, Saddam Hussein had sought the permission of the United States, through its Ambassador to Iraq to Invade Kuwait.
Washinton, under President Bush, gave Saddam the green light, only to send in American forces dressed in a special Uniform of Coalition forces and Kuwait Army to the side of Kuwait for back up.
Saddam was defeated, after sending 300,000 troops into Kuwait for about 6 weeks.
“Iraq will not be permitted to annex Kuwait. And that’s not a threat, not a boast. It’s just the way it’s going to be.” President Bush said to a gathering of American lawmakers and diplomats, including Iraqi Ambassador to the United States.
It is important to know that Saddam was under pressure at the time for funds because of the IRAQ-IRAN conflict which saw Saddam investing heavily in Arms. This left his government broke and unable to fund public service.
He was desperate. He needed the Kuwait oil desperately. America will never allow that. Who wants the oil riches of Kuwait to be in the hands of a strong leader?
That was the beginning of his end.
George Bush Junior will finally seal the fate of Saddam with the now unfounded alibi that Saddam Hussein was in possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Since my first experience at seeing war images, I have since developed an interest in understanding why nations go to war.
For the few wars that I have tried to study, not a single war has been free from the greed of men with mighty ambitions and big dreams. The United States, often times, is never a saint even as the other countries and their citizens make bold, deadly and greedy move to expand their empires.
May the Soul of George Herbert Walker Bush rest in peace.
