In search of "The Nigerian Dream"
National greatness is never stumbled upon. It is neither attained by chance nor by natural endowments. It is achieved by a clearly articulated effort to create a common-wealth for the general benefit of the citizens of any nation. It is often motivated by the collective frustration with the status quo or a general desire for a better way of life. So it was in the United States of America during the rebellion against Britain by native Americans (Because it was a legitimate struggle and a shared vision, France assisted America), so it was in Japan when the concept of Kaizen ( Pursuit of total Quality) was instituted.same also was the situation in Finland when the concept of Sisu was institutionalized by the then prime minister, Martti Ahtisaari. In China under the leadership of Chairman Mao, it was the same thing. In Singapore, Lee Kwan Yeu also moved based on this reckoning. There has to be a concerted effort from Nigerians for a better life. This should motivate us to create a common vision that will become a national document written in the heart of every Nigerian and documented in our national library for today's generation and for generations to come.
-Sisu: This is a Finnish term that could be roughly translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. And this is what every finish has in mind whenever they think of themselves as Finish.
-The American Dream:Do you ever wonder why the Americans are quick to boast about their nationality? The American dream talks about the opportunity for immigrants to achieve greater material prosperity than was possible in their countries of origin. America has been viewed as a land in which one's prospects in life are defined by one's talents and energy rather than by one's family wealth or political connections.
-Kaizen: Its a Japanese word for improvement.it became a national philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement throughout all aspects of life. When applied to the workplace, Kaizen activities continually improve all functions of a business, from manufacturing to management and from the CEO to the assembly line workers. By improving standardized activities and processes, Kaizen aims to eliminate waste . Kaizen was first implemented in several Japanese businesses during the country's recovery after World War II, including Toyota, and has since spread to businesses throughout the world.
In Nigeria, our collective dream is what will become our shared vision and will drive us all to work in support of government initiative and throw away our deep seated Cynicism and pessimism for optimism. It will help us drastically reduce our ethnic and geo-political sentiments in the interest of national development. What is the Nigerian Dream?
The answer is in the yearnings of our people. To find that solution, but we will have to get to the round table to articulate them. For where there is no vision...................
